Peninsula Impressions 2027

Walk in the footsteps of the Australian Impressionists

There are few experiences more inspiring for a painter than standing before a landscape that has inspired generations of artists, setting up your easel and attempting to capture the same light, atmosphere and character for yourself.

Peninsula Impressions 2027 is a seven-day painting immersion on Victoria’s magnificent Mornington Peninsula, created for passionate painters who want to deepen their understanding of Australian Impressionism while developing their own approach to painting the landscape.

Following the success of our Australian Impressionists Tour, this special event takes the experience another step further. We’ll spend approximately half our time painting en plein air, visiting carefully selected locations around the Peninsula where dramatic cliffs meet the sea, historic piers reach into sparkling water, colourful boat sheds line the beaches and changing coastal light provides an endless source of inspiration.

Along the way, we’ll explore the legacy of the great Australian Impressionists and paint in the same landscape—and in some cases the same locations—that inspired some of Australia's most celebrated painters.

The other half of our time will be spent at the Dromana Creative Hub and Gallery, where Rod Moore will lead focused painting demonstrations, workshops and discussions designed to help you translate what you experience outdoors into stronger paintings. We’ll explore composition, simplification, values, colour and temperature, expressive brushwork, atmosphere, edges and, above all, how to capture the impression of a place rather than simply copying what is in front of you.

The combination of structured studio learning and painting directly from life gives you the opportunity to learn a principle, put it into practice and then build upon it throughout the week.

But Peninsula Impressions 2027 is about more than producing paintings. It is about immersing yourself in painting for seven uninterrupted days, surrounded by people who share your enthusiasm for art, Australian Impressionism and the landscape. It is an opportunity to escape the distractions of everyday life, challenge yourself creatively, exchange ideas with other committed painters and return home with new skills, new friendships, wonderful memories and, most importantly, renewed enthusiasm for your own artistic journey.

Why Join Peninsula Impressions 2027?

Seven days devoted to your painting — the rare opportunity to step away from everyday distractions and immerse yourself completely in your art.

Paint spectacular Mornington Peninsula subjects — beaches, dramatic coastal cliffs, historic piers, boat sheds, headlands, sparkling water and some of Australia's most paintable coastal scenery.

Follow in the footsteps of the Australian Impressionists — discover the history and ideas behind Australian Impressionism while painting landscapes connected to that remarkable artistic tradition.

The best of plein air and studio painting — approximately half the program will be spent painting on location and half working at the Dromana Creative Hub and Gallery.

Focused tuition with Rod Moore — demonstrations, practical instruction and individual guidance aimed at helping you create stronger, more expressive and confident paintings.

Develop your ability to capture an impression — learn to simplify complicated scenes, identify the big shapes, organise values, understand colour temperature and capture fleeting effects of light and atmosphere.

Designed for committed painters — ideally suited to experienced beginners through intermediate and more experienced artists who already understand the basics and are ready to take their painting further.

A small group with limited spaces — allowing for a more personal experience, individual attention and the camaraderie that develops when enthusiastic painters spend a week creating together.

More than a workshop — this is a painting immersion: part artistic retreat, part plein-air adventure, part exploration of Australian art history and seven memorable days spent doing what we love.

Capture the Light. Connect with History. Create Your Best Work.

If Australian Impressionism inspires you, if the sight of a beautiful coastal landscape makes you immediately wonder where you could set up your easel, and if you would love to spend a week surrounded by other positive, enthusiastic painters who take their art seriously, Peninsula Impressions 2027 has been created for you.
